Frequently Asked Questions
Does Kiln work completely offline?
Yes. Once you download a model from the built-in library, you can disconnect from the internet entirely. Making pictures, starting from a picture, and enlarging all run on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
Which devices are supported?
Kiln is optimized for Macs with Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4 or later) running macOS 14.0 or newer, as well as iPhone and iPad running iOS 17.0 or newer. Fast distilled models like SD Turbo and Dreamshaper run comfortably on 8GB unified memory configurations, while 1024px SDXL class models shine on 16GB or higher systems.
Why are model weights downloaded separately?
Keeping the initial application installer small allows you to download only the models you want to use. You can download and remove models at any time in the Model Library to manage storage space on your disk.
How does 4x enlarging work?
Enlarging runs via a Core ML model on Apple Silicon's Neural Engine rather than the GPU. This prevents memory contention with the diffusion model and produces clean, high-fidelity 2048px or 4096px files in seconds without artifacts.
What does Kiln Pro include?
Making pictures and all 8 models are always free and unlimited. The one thing counted is starting from an existing picture, five times a day. Kiln Pro lifts that limit and adds the queue, enlarging four times, exporting a whole selection at once, and unlimited saved presets.
How do I restore settings from an exported picture?
Every exported PNG records its creation parameters (prompt, seed, model, step count) in standard metadata chunks. Simply choose File > Restore Settings from a Picture or drag a saved PNG back onto the canvas to restore dials automatically.
